I am from the Southwestern USA (Arizona via Nevada), and have lived since 2001 in Tokyo, Japan, where I am a freelance writer, translator, editor, university lecturer, and community organizer.

This site will serve as a space for me to share my published writings in the area of travel, arts and culture, and social features from Japan and beyond. I am a Libra who naturally tips the scales in both directions in order to find balance; a fierce advocate for peace, human rights and social justice issues; and a believer in the interconnection of all things in this world.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Dear Kim: I re-read your post-earthquake post and the other entries on your blog and I continue to be amazed and awed by your writing. I thank you for sharing your thoughts, your research and especially your first-hand experiences with everyone, including me, and for all that you do to make this world a better place. I will try to focus on the positive aspects of your living so far away from home, such as living among the amazing Japanese people. They are showing the world what the actual meaning of dignity and sharing mean when the chips are down. I am very proud of you!
